What have you learned from your audience feedback?

RESEARCH AND PLANNING

My audience interaction began with a post titled 'Who are the target audience for my chosen artist?', where I identified a potential member of the demographic I would be targeting.

  • I then moved on to the initial ideas stage for all three of my products. For the music video section, I wrote everything up in Google Docs, and the ones for the MMA and the CDD were first drawn by me in Photoshop and then put in Google Docs.

  • Using that particular software allowed me to obtain audience feedback extremely easily, since all I had to do was sharing the documents with members of my target demographic.

During the initial ideas stage the feedback proved itself to be invaluable. Based on the suggestions made by the members of my target audience I decided which ideas had the most potential, as well as identifying what my chosen demographic found appealing in products. Moreover, certain comments I've received, either written or verbally, inspired me to incorporate certain elements in my products - such as the LGBT+ representation or the red yarn idea!

Furthermore, I asked members of my target audience for opinions during typography consideration; it was their suggestions that made me decide to use the fonts I did!

CONSTRUCTION

  • During this stage, al of the feedback I've received from members of my audience was purely verbal, rather than written.

  • In the MMA construction video I chose to indicate the moments where I've actually asked for opinions, but with the other products it was more of a continuous process than a 'sit down feedback session'.

What I've actually learned from the verbal feedback, in terms of my products and their appearance, were things such as:

  • In terms of the music video: 'cutting to the beat chaos' was better than 'just put together chaos;, and that a higher frequency of cuts and effects is considered more visually pleasing; a gradient typography looks better than solid fill, and it's better if that colour matches the overall colour scheme of the video.

  • In terms of the MMA: the advertisement looks better if it's an image of the artist (or in my case, the representation of the artist) is in the front of other elements and not upside down; as well as that, adding some colour in the background (which then transferred to the CDD) is more visually appealing; and finally, a line-art style is a better option in terms of the incorporated illustrations than a 'full on' cartoon

  • In terms of the CDD: spiral words look as, if not more, readable if they are aligned from the inside to the outside; as well as that, layering elements (such as the Statue of Liberty outline) is rather aesthetically pleasing.
